This website is a private reference guide, not a government office. We cannot confirm whether someone is in custody, release anyone, post or verify bond, schedule jail services, or pull official booking, court, sheriff, or corrections records. Use the official agency listed below for those requests.

Where to Ask for the Record You Need

Jefferson County uses several different public-record systems. Louisville Metro Department of Corrections operates the local jail, while Jefferson County Sheriff's Office handles sheriff functions such as civil process and courthouse-related work. Court records are maintained through the Kentucky Court of Justice and Jefferson Circuit Court Clerk.

Louisville Metro Department of Corrections

Use LMDC for current local custody, booking records, jail mugshots, visits, inmate accounts, MailGuard mail questions, and LMDC open-records requests.

Jefferson County Sheriff's Office

JCSO is not the jail operator. Use the sheriff's office for sheriff records such as civil process, tax-related sheriff records, courthouse security matters, and other JCSO records. The research file notes the office moved to 515 W. Market St.; older JCSO open-records material listed inspection hours of 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., Monday through Friday except holidays, and an older records-custodian address. Verify the current mailing or delivery address on the official JCSO site before sending a records request.

Courts and Bond Questions

For charges filed after arrest, case events, dockets, and court records, use the court systems rather than the jail roster. For bond posting questions, LMDC directs people to Jefferson District Court Clerk at (502) 595-4428 or (502) 595-3060.

Use the page topics below when you are not sure where to start.

  • For someone in LMDC custody, start with jail inmate records or call LMDC general information.
  • For booking photographs or public arrest records, use jail roster mugshots and the official Louisville mugshot portal.
  • For formal charges, dockets, case numbers, or dispositions, use court records after a jail arrest.
  • For facility-specific jail services, see Louisville Metro Department of Corrections.
  • For a sentenced Kentucky prisoner, use Kentucky Online Offender Lookup through KDOC.
  • For federal prison or immigration custody, use the BOP Inmate Locator or ICE Online Detainee Locator System.
